Volunteering at Salvation Army

Salvation Army is a church and an international charitable organization which focus on doing good for the people in need. They provide different services like Family Support, Homelessness support, Youth and senior services. [1]

D2D focusses on serving food to the needy. We appreciate and volunteer at the Salvation Army – Emmanuel house services where they provide food for the homeless people every weekend. As volunteers we get to cook and serve people in person in this volunteering event. The volunteering event was on Sunday 12th October, 2014 from 3PM to 6PM.

This is a very soul-filling event for me. We have cooked and served more than 150 people. We can see the faces of the people who ate the food filled with satisfaction and happiness. Thank you to Anu for organizing this wonderful event. And thank you to Vijay for the guiding force behind these charity events.

If Motivation is the need of the hour for making people serve others, then i will continue to do that. But lets not wait for someone to motivate us, rather lets take the initiative to serve others with/without it. Because this is how we serve God. Serving people in needy without any expectations is serving God. Lets continue to do that in whatever levels we can. Thanks a lot for showing the enthusiasm by serving 150 hungry souls in couple of hours. This positive karma will go a long way in shaping our lives and get us closer to our”Self” and God ultimately.

If I look back on the last 3 volunteer events, we did food harvest & farm cleaning back in August, did food sorting in September and cooked and served food this month. There is a continuity in each months’ activity. I felt extremely content in participating for this volunteer event. Very well organized as always.

Volunteering at Salvation Army is one of my favorite volunteering activity. I enjoyed cooking and serving food for so many people. When the people eat and says thank you, we could see the happiness of getting food in their faces and being part of it makes us happy. As our Guru always says, that in giving we receive. Here we get happiness by giving happiness to them.
Thank you Anu for organizing the event.
