Volunteering at SFHB – Feb 21st, 2015
Second Harvest Food Bank is a trusted leader dedicated to ending local hunger in many counties across United States. They distribute nutritious food to low income people in need through direct service programs and by collaborating with other non-profit agencies. [1]
D2D volunteers with SHFB as part of providing food for those in need. In this volunteering, we sorted the good tomatoes from the bad ones and packed them for distribution. Check the photos and comments from the participants below.

I’ve really enjoyed the volunteering event at this location. We have been put into a ‘Salvage’ project to check if the food can still be consumed or not based on the expiry date. It helped me understand how much of work is to be done before actually the food is ready to the needy. My heart was filled with happiness by seeing so many people who are ready to serve. Another reason i was looking forward to this volunteer event was, it is one of the newest location we have started to serve. I’m glad that volunteering event has done a fantastic job in findings these new places. Thank you to the team and Guru for guiding us.

Volunteering anywhere with D2D is always a fun event. Every time we go for volunteering, we will learn something new. As venu has mentioned in the last comment, we were doing the Salvage project at SHFB for this month’s event. I looked up in internet for the meaning of Salvage and it is to rescue/recover. It is very appropriate word here.
The activity is to recover products from being thrown away as expired. Also by doing such activities for others we were able to rescue ourselves from being lost in the sea of everyday life.
Thanks
