Volunteering for Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart Community Service [SHCS] is a non profit organization which is dedicated to bringing our community together to address poverty in Silicon Valley. Through a comprehensive array of resources, services, and community involvement initiatives, SHCS is making a real impact in the lives of working poor families. [1]
Service is an important aspect of D2D. We volunteer at Sacred Heart Community Service in our effort to serve the needy. For this volunteering, we collect donations from people and sort them accordingly. Check out the photos and comments below from the participants about their experience.

I enjoyed the volunteer activity today. There were so many donated clothes. My job was to sort them according to their sizes and arranging them neatly. I generally like shopping; it made me feel like I am doing shopping. Sacred heart collects donations from people and gives them to needy. As volunteers we helped them to sort the donated clothes. I like their attitude, instead of putting all the clothes in a bin they want to create a shopping experience for the needy people. Whenever I participate in volunteer activities like this, I realize how fortunate I am. God gave everything to me. I feel so contented and happy. I want to thank God, my husband and family for giving me everything. I would like to say thanks to D2D for giving this opportunity to participate and feel happiness.

It was a great experience. Today lots of people came to donate clothes, shoes and other stuff. I helped them to unload the stuff from their cars. Later I sorted the donated clothes. I like the jobs I did. I saw an old lady crying for pair of jeans I felt sad for her. When I saw that, I realized how blessed I am.

I enjoyed today’s volunteer work experience. It was great to see people who really care about others. Everybody there was not working for the sake of doing it. They are involved in their work whole heartedly. It made me feel happy. I want to recommend this to my friends and roommates.

It was very good, I liked the activity today. I liked the fact that many people take the time to donate used and new clothes. Working here helped me to understand the value of many things I have. I really enjoyed today.

The experience of the volunteer activity was great. It was satisfying as time was spent in a useful manner to help other people. It was good to meet new people and working to benefit the needy people. It was also interesting to note that lot of people come to donate clothes in very good condition in some cases brand new, which can be useful for people who need them. I would like to participate again.

It was really good and new experience for me. I enjoyed it very much. People with various origins and cultures came there and worked with single motto that is ‘serve poor people’. That inspired me a lot. I would like to participate in volunteer works like this again.

It was excellent. We sorted clothes/dresses for all ages. These clothes will be later provided to the needy. It was not just used clothes people donate but new ones as well. The organization & volunteer leaders are all matured. They provide only good of the donated ones. I enjoyed the activity very much. Peace, contentment and love filled me.

Today’s volunteer experience was very nice. Today I did two jobs, clothes sorting and food sorting. Both were good Most of the volunteers attended today were high school students. It was nice to see young people working in a community center. Thanks for the opportunity. I enjoyed it very much.

The experience was very good. I really liked the sorting activity. The effort taken by each donor to donate the items was appreciable. I saw lot of enthusiasm and eagerness in volunteers to work.

I happily participated in this group activity. Though it was old clothes, we sorted them not just simply for the sake but with fullness. I enjoyed this part a lot. It was a wonderful experience.
